Farm to Table’s “For the Love of Pittsburgh” Tasting Seeks to Level the Playing Field and Give Back

February 10, 2018- August Wilson Center

January 31, 2018 (Pittsburgh, PA) – For the Love of Pittsburgh, Farm to Table’s winter local tasting event, comes to the August Wilson Center on February 10th. Local food, farms, purveyors, spirits, and natural locally-made products will be available for sampling and purchase. Meet the makers and producers of some of Western Pennsylvania’s most delicious and innovative food, beverage, and mind & body wellness products. Enjoy live entertainment, speakers, and demonstrations while you sip, taste, and network your way through the August Wilson Center.

For the Love of Pittsburgh is also focusing on black owned businesses and experts. “Farm to Table is about literally bringing everyone to the table,” says Executive Director, Erin Hart. “There is a pretty big disparity in support and exposure for black and minority-owned businesses in the food industry nationally and locally. Our goal with this event and every program we present is to bring forward the excellent work and products of these professionals and bridge the gap to level the playing field. ‘Keep it real, keep it local’ is our motto- and part of what this means is that local is for everyone, made by everyone, representing everyone. We wouldn’t be an authentic organization if we didn’t address and work our hardest to correct these disparities within our own industry. It’s a top priority.”

For the Love of Pittsburgh is also launching a VIP ticketing option called “Share the Love” with early access to the event from 2pm-3pm. The $150 VIP ticket will include attendees “giving back” $100 of their $150 ticket fee to organizations working to end hunger and food insecurity in Western Pennsylvania. Guests will receive $100 in tokens and can meet with each non-profit and donate their $100 to several organizations or just one of their choice throughout the day. Additional tokens for additional donations will also be available that day. VIP guests will also enjoy a “first taste” preview of all For the Love of Pittsburgh vendors before the doors open for General Admission guests as well.

Participating non-profits include 412 Food Rescue, The Black Urban Gardeners & Farmers of Pittsburgh Co-op, Community Kitchen Pittsburgh, For Good PGH, Grow Pittsburgh, Just Harvest, North Hills Community Outreach, Sankofa Village Projects and more.

“Many people want to get involved in volunteerism or financial support of some of our great local non-profits and just don’t know where to start or think that a small donation couldn’t possibly make a difference” says Hart. “We developed this model so folks can not only see where their money will go, they get to meet the people behind the organization and learn how their donation or willingness to help- even in a small way- can make a big impact.”

Programming and entertainment include: live music from Hill Jordan & Slide Worldwide; an appearance and live broadcast by the Drinking Partners Podcast, featuring Day Bracey & Ed Bailey, who will be interviewing non-profits from “Share the LOVE,”; exhibitors and speakers from the tasting including Knowledge Build Hudson, host of the podcast,”10 Minutes of Knowledge,” who’s launching the 2nd season of his podcast; the Black Urban Gardeners & Farmers of Pittsburgh Co-op; Community Kitchen Pittsburgh; Gary Jackson, a food entrepreneur who connects farms to local food businesses.
