FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Raising Animal Welfare Standards One Farm At A Time

Pittsburgh, PA — The Ethical Farming Fund, a local nonprofit dedicated to humane animal farming, is excited to announce their second ever Farmraiser Grant. This $1000-grant will help a local animal farm improve the welfare of their livestock, creating a more humane food system in Western PA.

The first Farmraiser Grant was awarded in 2016 to the Streets Family Farm in Johnstown, PA. “The Farmraiser Grant allowed us to kickstart our rotational grazing program by funding the perimeter fence necessary to keep our animals safe from predators,” says farmer Janelle Streets.

Remarkably, this year’s Farmraiser Grant has been funded almost entirely by the EFF’s Farming With Love program, which uses shirts and canvas tote bags to raise money for the grant. “We want to thank our Farming With Love and Giving Tuesday donors for taking a stand for higher animal welfare standards,” says Ethical Farming Fund CEO and co-founder Hannah Ridge. “Our ability to offer this grant is all thanks to them.”

For fans of local food, it’s not too late to get involved with the Farmraiser. Once the grant finalists are selected, the public will decide on the awardee by voting for their favorite project. Individuals can also become Farming With Love donors (and receive Farming With Love merchandise) to ensure that future grants can be made available.

Any independent, for-profit animal farm serving Southwestern PA or located within 100 miles of Pittsburgh is encouraged to fill out the short project proposal form. Proposals will be accepted until 11:59pm EDT on Friday, April 6, 2018.
