Description:

An Authentic Family Farm Winery

With three generations in the vineyard, we are dedicated to crafting exceptional local wine from our mountainside location in the heart of central Pennsylvania. We take great pride in providing our guests with a fun and informative wine-tasting experience while they enjoy the ambiance of our beautiful setting.

A Passion for Winemaking and Viticulture

Winery co-owner Joe Carroll spent a lot of time on the family farm back in Indiana as a boy. So when he and Betty purchased their 65-acre property on the side of Mt. Nittany in 1983, it was natural for him to return to his farming roots. Joe had been an amateur winemaker for years starting in the 1970s, learning the craft from local aficionados and other winemakers across the state at a time when there were only 30 wineries in the state of PA.

Our Vineyard, Our Wines

In the over 25 years they have been in business, Joe and Betty and their dedicated staff have continued to make award-winning wines as they have seen their operation continue to expand and now come to involve their children and grandchildren in the day-to-day operations.

The southern exposure and elevation of our vineyard provide a microclimate conducive to grape growing – the south-facing exposure facilitating the growth and ripening of the grapes, and the altitude providing air flow which minimizes the potential for disease and early and late season frosts. The six varieties of grapes grown in our vineyard include Cayuga, Seyval Blanc, Riesling, Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Mount Nittany Vineyard & Winery produces 12-13,000 gallons of wine each year and harvests anywhere from 12-15 tons of grapes annually. We make award-winning wines to suit every taste, including fruit wines out of locally-sourced cherries, apples, blueberries and raspberries.
