APTEKA is renowned as one of the best restaurants on this side of the state, and rightly so… they consistently create plant-based interpretations of traditional Eastern European dishes with care, invention, and a dedication to working with local farmers that goes beyond sourcing and into collaboration. This commitment to generating plates stellar in savor and faultless in quality has earned them not only multiple James Beard nominations and other awards, but a fervent and enthusiastic audience.
And then there’s CRAPTEKA.
Once a year, Apteka diverts from their beloved mission to instead take on traditional American fast food- burgers, fries, shakes, sandwiches, sodas; charming desserts, frisky cocktails, and even salads because there’s always that one person (hi it’s me I’m her)- and transform, like Bruce Wayne into Batman, Norma Jean into Marilyn, Dr. Jekyll into Mr. Hyde or is it the other way around? Who knows! The point is clear.
But while the disguise may be donned, the transformation into a brand new monster isn’t quite complete.
This may look like junk food, it might taste like delicious delicious nutritionally ruthless processed ready meals, oh, but it’s not- it’s brought into being with the same purpose as their regular menu. You can’t have Crapteka without Apteka, and you can’t have Apteka without a foundation of quality ingredients, many of which are sourced from local farmers and producers.
Crapteka begins on Friday, January 17th at 5 pm, and continues for three weeks until Sunday, February 2nd. Seating is walk-in only, Friday through Sunday, 5- 10 pm. Take-out will be available through their website, with orders opening Wednesday at noon, week of. Pro-tip: if you’re looking to pick-up, jump on it, because they will sell out quickly.
The final menu can be viewed on their website Wednesday, January 13th! We’ll be visiting the first weekend and will tell you all about it, including details on local purveyors represented.
