This local mainstay has the highest of standards.

The East End Food Coop is one of our favorite markets, and a large part is due to how their standards line up with our own.

They recently shared the details on how their prioritize their produce-

1- local and certified organic

2- local and organically grown

3- certified organic

4- local and conventionally grown

5- conventionally grown

We love this- and we additionally love that during growing season in Pennsylvania, a large amount of their produce comes from within 50 miles of their store, and that they have ongoing relationships with area farmers.

We also love that they are committed to never carrying any produce which has been treated with Apeel food preservation. This post-harvest coating uses monoacylglycerides and is not only invisible to the eye, but difficult to wash off. Additionally, there’s no regulation requiring any disclosure of its use to consumers through labeling. The East End Coop has formally made all of their farmers and suppliers aware that every last blueberry that comes into their establishment is to be completely free of this product, and we’re grateful to them for taking this action.
