Farm to Table Conference Returns With “Cook at Home” Theme

March 27th and 28th, 2015. David L. Lawrence Convention Center

February 25th, 2015 (Pittsburgh, PA)— The 9th Annual Farm to Table Conference returns Friday and Saturday March 27th and March 28th to the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. The conference features exhibitors, speakers, a Local Food Tasting, as well as a networking breakfast. This year Farm to Table has themed the conference “Cook at Home.”

Events within the Conference include educational opportunities, cooking demonstrations, food sampling, nutrition information and health and wellness discussions. Farm to Table will teach attendees about where their food originates, the advantages of eating local (for health and economic reasons), and where to find businesses and organizations who can provide them with healthy food and lifestyle options. This two-day event will serve as a valuable resource both to those who are looking to learn more about eating locally and those who are already well-versed in Farm to Table culture.  Giant Eagle Produce is sponsoring the event for the ninth year.

In addition to regular programming, on Saturday March 27th, the Farm to Table Pittsburgh Conference will host Community Kitchen’s Project Lunch Tray’s Jr. Chef competition from 2:30-4:30. Students from Environmental Charter School,  Manchester Academic Charter School, The Neighborhood Academy, Arsenal, Langley, Holy Family Academy, Propell Braddock Hills, Propell McKeesport will complete this program live and on-site as an exciting youth element this year. Part of the education programming offered by Community Kitchen Pittsburgh to the greater Pittsburgh area presents local students with opportunities to learn more about food safety, policy, cooking techniques, nutrition and more. This junior chef competition serves as a teaching and learning opportunity. The competition’s focal point is its namesake: the Lunch Tray. This is not just a competition between teams, but a challenge to kids and their chef men-tors to reinvent and innovate what a cafeteria lunch is like.

This year’s speakers will include experts, food writers, cooks, chefs and nutritionists heralding from; The Brazen Kitchen, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Community Kitchen Pittsburgh, Grow Pittsburgh, American HealthCare Group, and more.  “This year’s theme is “Cook at Home,” says Erin Hart, Director of Health Benefits for American HealthCare Group, “People are seeking information about health and wellness. How we eat on a daily basis is critical for good health and cooking at home is a critical skill for maintaining good health. We have incorporated elements of cooking instruction while continuing to provide our attendees with meaningful connections to local food producers. In addition we also focus on aspects of all wellness guests can practice in the home- for the mind, body and spirit.”
