FERMENTED FOOD FOR THE FUTURE

One of the smartest things anyone can do is take more control over their own food supply. This doesn’t just mean growing your own (though of course that’s highly recommended); it means learning to preserve fruits and vegetables when they’re seasonal to keep them around when they’re not- and in some cases to make them even more delicious and healthy.

If fermenting vegetables is something you’ve never done before, you might view it as an achievement accessible only to the most experienced of chefs. But if you have given it a whirl, you know how incredibly easy it is- especially if you’re fortunate enough to acquire your skills from a highly skilled teacher. We’re the luckiest of ducks to have Trevor and Community Cultures to turn to,  providing not only an incredible line of handcrafted products to purchase, but also the most top-notch of instruction.

Two workshops are coming soon, so sign up and save the date. On Wednesday, April 23rd, jump into “Pickled Vegetables and Fermented Foods For Health”, at Rebel Wellness in East Liberty.  You’ll learn the practical skills to transform what you’ve got onhand, the global and cultural importance of fermented foods, and what these magical treats can do to improve your digestive health.

Next Tuesday, April 29th,  Jackworth Ginger Beer hosts “Fermenting Veggies for the Apocalypse”, examining the importance of food preservation when it comes to survival- or just a nifty way to work with produce in even the best of times.  Whether you’ve pickled veg in vinegar before or not, you’re ready for this class on lacto-fermentation through salt brining as either another method to add to your roster or a fantastic place to get started.

Register for either through their website, where you can also check out their products, learn about upcoming pop-ups, and schedule your own class!
