Preserved foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, and pickles of all kinds have been earning well-deserved attention in the past few years, from fine dining establishments embracing their versatility to culinary outlets spotlighting the hottest food crazes. But the truth of the trend is that these fermented products are simple, downhome staples that you can create yourself not only economically, but easily… especially with a little instruction.
Community Cultures is here to provide exactly that, with everything from group events to private workshops to extended learning. We’re giddy with anticipation to welcome founder Trevor Ring to the Buy Fresh Buy Local stage at the upcoming Home & Garden Show in March, where he’ll be presenting “Preserving Your Vegetable Harvest Through Fermentation”. We were fortunate enough to experience an Introduction to Fermentation Workshop last year, and have been having a great time playing with produce and flavors ever since.
Until then, you can still sign up for “Intro To Miso”, a two-hour workshop on Tuesday, February 4th. Starting at 6 pm, the East End Food Coop hosts this exploration of the traditional, versatile Japanese seasoning that’s been bringing its rich goodness to the table for over a thousand years. You can also catch Community Cultures at the Bloomfield Market with their tasty wares showcasing local produce.
