The wealth of area Holiday and Winter Markets grows this season with a brand new addition to the roster, The Farm at Emerald Valley.
The farm itself is not new, far from it. This property has been a part of the Scenery Hill landscape for over two hundred years. Original owner Colonel Thomas Crooks, (born 1736, died 1815), loved the place so much he’s buried in the family cemetery right on the property.
But while Crooks is long gone and staying that way, the Farm is on the brink of a resurrection through the efforts of current owners Alisa Fava-Fasnacht and Alan J. Fasnacht. And that begins with the first annual Holiday Harvest Farm Market & Festival, held on Saturday, November 16, from 11 am to 4 pm.
A plethora of vendors (full list below) are showcased, with The Country Coop, the farm’s own store, offering more choices. Local craft beer and hard apple cider from Beck-Ringland Tavern and Scenery Hill Brewing will be available, and Red Pump Spirits, a craft distiller focused on whiskeys and fruit liqueurs, supplies the cocktail selection from their farm-based headquarters. Hassan Davis, Executive Chef of Affordable Elegance Catering, brings culinary mastery with an enticing menu of prepared food. And in addition to shopping, dining, and drinking, entertainment manifests with live music from Farrah Grace, singer and guitar player.
With this celebration of the farm in the present, visitors will get a glimpse of its past through its rich history, and its future, as it transforms. Renovations are underway to develop it into an event venue, which will offer in-house catering focused on a Farm-to-Table approach. A variety of spaces ranging from the rustic to the refined, including a converted Hen House with adjacent Victorian terrace conversation garden, Bank Barn, Long Barn, and back of the barn Tiki Bar, will accommodate groups and parties of all sizes, for all purposes.
The event season begins in June, but this weekend the farm reintroduces itself. Tickets are available in advance through the farm’s website for $15, or at the door for $20. Kids under 18 and welcome and get in free, and same for pets!
