We never stop being grateful for the abundance of locally produced food accessible in this region. Fruits and vegetables, meat and poultry, honey and maple syrup, eggs and dairy- if it shows up on your table chances are you can find it made with care and commitment not too far from your kitchen.

The best meals begin with the best ingredients. For Thanksgiving, for many that means with turkey as the centerpiece, and there’s plenty of local farmers producing top-notch birds for your friends and family to enjoy.

We’ve compiled a rafter (that’s a group of turkeys!) below for you to choose from, with links to websites where applicable, or contact information for offline ordering. We’ve chosen a few to highlight, and listed several others to explore. Whichever farm is most compatible with your needs, order quickly- supplies are limited!

The specialty turkeys at Jones Turkey Farm benefit from their own good nutritional practices- not only are they free of additives, artificial ingredients, and preservatives, their diet consists of feed grown on location. Owner David Jones personally inspects each bird as a further measure of quality control. The farm offers fresh or frozen whole turkeys in a variety of sizes, as well as frozen turkey breasts and thighs, plus chickens raised with the same care. Footprints Farms offers Heritage turkeys, strains preserving historic traits that were bred out when factory farming changed the way the birds were raised. They additionally have goose, duck, and chicken in the poultry column, plus ham, steak, sausage and more. Along with meat, they feature eggs and pantry items from His & Hers and Redrange Farms. In Burgettstown, PA, Coyne Family Farm is powered by three generations who switched from showing animals to raising them. With a focus originally on beef and pork, they supplement seasonally with free range, hormone free, medication free birds, in partnership with a local farmer sharing their values and philosophies on ethical food production.
