Just Harvest’s Just Ideas- Moving Forward Together: Federal Fights & State Wins

Just Harvest consistently presents a wide range of programs addressing food equity and the root causes of hunger, including multiple undertakings that provide us the necessary tools to take action on our own.

Just IDEAS: A Policy Discussion & Fundraiser Series, is an invaluable resource for anyone who’d like to help, be they seasoned advocate or absolute beginner. The first installment of 2025 is “Moving Forward Together: Federal Fights & State Wins”, and it’s an ideal way to launch the year.

A panel discussion moderated by Just Harvest’s Executive Director, Ken Regal, will examine policies that could potentially be impacted by the incoming administration. The full line-up is yet to be finalized, but as of now several key participants are confirmed.

Erin Gabriel is the Government Affairs Representative of Pennsylvania Health Access Network, a statewide, consumer-driven organization working to expand and protect access to high-quality, equitable, affordable health care for the commonwealth’s residents. Appearing on behalf of the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, who work with individuals, businesses, and organizations to create change to better communities, is Emily Schmidlapp.

Pittsburghers for Public Transit joins riders, workers and neighbors to ensure affordable and accessible public transit for all communities, with longtime board member and Executive Director Laura Chu Wiens on board. Eddie Carpio joins in as Community Policy Organizer of Casa San José, serving Allegheny County’s Latino community with programs that support, educate, integrate, listen and care. And Just Harvest’s own Ann Sanders, Director of Public Benefits Policy and Programs, rounds out the current roster.

The evening commences at 6 pm at Just Harvest’s Highline location with a networking reception including wine, drinks, and small bites, with discussion following at 6:45. Advance tickets are recommended, and can be purchased here; proceeds support Just Harvest initiatives.
