Garfield Community Farms welcomes visitors to their last regular workday opportunity on Thursday, October 31st, but don’t be too spooked- even though weekly volunteer hours are coming to a close for the season, there’s plenty more to come from this decade-old urban farm that successfully restored a three-acre patch of abandoned land.
On Saturday, November 16th, they’ll offer a Composting Workshop from 11 am to 12:30 pm at their farm at 509 Wicklow Street, 15224. Russ Thorsen of PASA Sustainable Agriculture will lead this simple and accessible course exploring what composting is, what can and can’t be composted, how farms implement this, and how you can do it yourself at home.
There is no charge to participate, and child care is provided! This is presented as part of Garfield Farm’s Food and Knowledge to the People Project, providing education on a variety of topics centering food equity, access, and knowledge. The SWPA United Way Community Food Solutions Grant program provides support for this initiative.
