George and Janet Dawson established Dawson's Orchards in 1946. The Dawson's three oldest children chose careers away from the farm, but in 1981 their youngest child, Carolyn, and her husband Kevin made the decision to return to the farm after college. They quickly updated the plantings and grew the wholesale segment. Kevin died suddenly in July of 2000, but by the grace of God the trees kept producing fruit and customers continued to buy it. In 2008, Carolyn remarried to Scott McQuiston, who now coordinates the orchard's food safety department.
The third generation now works alongside the second to continue moving the business forward. In August of 2017 the orchard replaced its existing packing line with a new state of the art line that not only improves productivity and packaging consistency, and it also continues to advance the orchard's food safety goals. In September of 2017 the orchard also launched Dawson Farm Dinners - five star dining under some of the oldest apple trees on the orchard. Each dinner features a menu crafted and prepared by some of the areas most notable chefs and drink pairings from local wineries and breweries. Also included - a behind the scenes tour of our working orchard, given by the orchard owners.
